T2x battery life

#1 Post by larryb » Tue Apr 17, 2007 8:52 pm

Can someone pls tell me just how long a T20 will operate on he battery pack alone?

Mine seems to last about 30Min max.

I have a T20, 900Mhz cpu, 512Mb and Cd rom drive.

Thanks

Larry

A t20 is an older machine:
(a) the CPU is not a modern low-power PM, so it draws more current (more power)
(b) the battery may be old (weaker, shorter life)
(c) the battery is probably not the newest technology.

My T41 is a PM, is 40 months old, and has the original Li-ION battery. It is good for an hour or a bit less, where it was good for near 3 hours when new.

It all depends on the what the battery is like. How much use it had?How old it is?Has the battery been sitting not beeing used for long amounts of time? lots of things. What are the power settings?
Is the screen brightnes when on battery?
I just bought a used T22.Looks like it never had much use.The battery in in great shape.Only about 20 charge cycles on it.When i use the laptop on battery, with lcd at full, and max performance. With just useing the internet on wireless pcmica card i will get about 1.5 to 2 hrs on it.And alot less if i use it to watch a dvd.
I'm sure with lcd turned down and power settings for max battery life i would get about 3 hr's.I think it's good for a laptop this old.

It really depends on the full charge capacity of the battery. The Battery MaxiMiser driver will tell you the full charge capacity of the battery. 12.00-15.00 Ah (1200-1500mAh) will get you about 1 hour of battery life. Divide this by you full charge capacity and this will give you a rough estimate of how long the battery will last. My batter reads 31.99 Ah and gets over 3 hours without wifi, about 2:20 with Wifi. And that capacity continues to increase! (I take good care of my battery!)

i just looked at the info on my battery. It showes at full charge is 34.89Ah.This is from a NEW full charge of 38.86Ah.
Is it ture that if you use the battery down to nothing and than fully charge it a few cycles it will help you with getting the most out of your battery?

I have an older IBM battery manufactured in 1999 (!!) that I purchased unused 3 months ago and re-conditioned twice. It is down to 75% life (25% wear level) most probably due to the manufacture date, but I still get at least 1.5 hours from it. If you buy a reputable fresh new battery and re-condition it occassionally, you should get at least 2 hours I would think.

Edited to say, the battery's new Wh was 38.88

That's an iffy situation as far as I'm concerned. I was always quick to drain an old battery, but I've been bitten in the a$$ twice-

Once time it was an X20 battery that was lasting 3 hours...then I did a full discharge, and the capacity split in half. I don't do that anymore!

I agree 100%. I do not drain batteries to 0% for conditioning. I've been bitten also. T-series batteries at best will last 3-3:15 hours. Maybe try a T30 battery instead of a T20 battery. More capacity.

You will loose some of your charge capacity during the first year of use of the battery, that is the nature of Li-ion. Once a month, discharge the battery down to 3%-5% and let it recharge overnight. The more cycles the battery has, the less of an effect this will have in increasing the charge capacity, but it will help it not deteriorate further. I only have 38 cycles on my battery. When I received my T21, the battery only had about 7 cycles and I estimate the full charge capacity was around 31.00 Ah, now its 32.00 Ah and is continuing to get better. It is impossible to regain your designed charge capacity though.

I can buy a cheap battery on ultrabay port, but i`m not sure if i can regenerate it in future...
Is it possible and if yes, how much does it cost?? =D
Now I`m regenerating standard battery but the guy who does it won`t do it with ultrabay battery =\\
Any ideas?

Yes it is possible =]]
And is only 20% more expexnsive then regenerating standard battery =]
So now I can really be mobile =DD
