T30 Wireless Problem....

#1 Post by Ed_T30 » Tue May 01, 2007 8:27 am

Newbie alert dont all attack :)

I have a T30 1.8ghz 2367 jobbie.... now this is supposed to have wireless ?!? I had nothing but now new hardware finds something called Net....I have tried the Cisco drivers and a few other drivers from IBM and even system update software :( but nope still pops up on restart...

If I knew the actual card I could prob find the drivers... no screwdriver here where i am or I would take a look :)

Thanks In advance, all else is fine so I will leave ya alone now :D

P.S had a good search but cant seem to find this actual problem of it not being seen in device manager

You need to give us the full type + model number, like 2367-81U.
Get a small philips screwdriver, and open up the lid on the bottom, on the right hand side of the big IBM label (only the 2 screws on the right hand side).
That will show you a rectangular card of ca. 6x4cm. If there are 2 thin wires attached to it (near the words 'Main' and 'Aux') you have a wireless card. Check the model/type/part/FRU number, with that you can 'google' drivers for it. Without drivers, Device Manager quite often does not know it's there.

Don't bother opening it. Unless someone changed it, you do NOT have wireless on your TP.

Actually, not having a card might be a good thing. In many cases, the orginal card would have been one of the old 802.11b type and you'd end up throwing it out. If I'm not mistaken, the T30s should have at least the antenna in place, so you'll need to do is the get an inexpensive card, install it and the drivers and you're set.

The Atheros chipped card such as what I and Realblackstuff have are good candidates. They are relatively inexpensive and can run at the 108Mps SuperG speed! :D
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505
