Recovery disk for T23 needed

#1 Post by sleepdeprived » Wed May 02, 2007 7:41 am

Hi, I'm new here but I'm hoping somebody may be able to help. I'm looking for the recovery disk(s) for my T23 which suffered a hard drive failure. XP preferred but 2000 would be OK.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

An eBay seller by the name of onlythinkpad has what you need, (and he's from Australia also). I received my set from him and they work great. FAST shipping to the U.S.

Thanks Phazer, can you confirm that the disks you got are the real thing or is the guy selling copies (they look like copies to me)? I'd prefer not to fork out money unless they are genuine. Thanks again!

If he is making copies he is breaking the law.

Especially if they are Win98 or win 2k sets.

Looked them over real close, (actually didn't have to look too close), they're copies.

Ofcourse they would be copies. What do you guys expect from that seller to sell originals (if somehow lenovo lets him to) at those rates.

Thanks Phazer, if they were originals I'd buy them but as it is I'll keep looking around a bit and see what else I can find.

If anyone has originals for sale at a reasonable price or knows of other options please get in touch.

Thanks!

That is a bit of a short-sighted attitude. Who cares if they are copies?
The only 'real' thing is the sticker on the bottom of your laptop with your own Windoze-key on it.
Go ahead, waste money on original CDs, where it is perfectly legal to use (anybody's !) copied CDs.

I would have no problem using copies. I have purchased several copies on this forum for 2 TPs I have. Works flawlessly.

As the poster above stated, the ONLY requirement is to have the proper COA attached to the unit. As long as that is in place, Microsoft doesn't care where the media is from.

The COA license travels with the computer it is attached to. There is no license attached to the media.

No... It isn't. Yes... it is splitting hairs. I see the point you are making. THe bottom line is it violates copyright.... Thank MS.

If you want legit ones, go to this guy:

<removed dead eBay link>

they look legit to me....

Moderator edit: Removed dead eBay link; returned Invalid Item. Found another seller but looked dicey; registered as private seller in US, item location in Australia, price in British Pounds.

Thanks guys, any chance that sombody could put something up on Usenet or similar?
BTW, what I meant earlier is that I don't mind paying for originals but I don't like the idea of somebody profiteering from copies. Just doesn't seem right ...

I'd like to have a Windows 2000 Pro restore CD for my T-23 as it only came with a COA, I don't see a proplem with giving somebody $10/$15 dollars for a copy of a disk for an operating system I have already paid for but don't have a disk. And that seller onlythinkpad on e-Bay seems to not be a registered user anymore.

Yeah, changed his name to thinkpadonly, and as the moderator mentioned, he is kinda sketchy.

I don't know why the link was dead....I'm looking at the same page i linked to right now. Wierd. He has copies i guess of recovery cd's for about $30. Still, I see your point of profit off of copies. But, I don't feel like buing something twice either. Oh well.....

why not just use a generic install of XP and just use the drivers that are useful to you?

i hate the IBM OEM builds of XP
