T21 or A22m
Ok.... I have had a A22m, it has 1ghz processor, according to CMOS, its got a 20gig HD with win98,
I bought a T21 that was "broke" when I tried to power it up
it beeped 3,3,and 1 so I looked it up on the web and got a new CMOS battery, it powered right-up and
has winXP and it has a 850mhz processor. The T21 seems to be in better shape than my A22m.
Which is the better computer?
I tried to take the A22m apart to remove the processor and put it in the T21, to have a 1Ghz T21 with winXP,
but I couldnt figure out how to get the computer apart
Which one can hold more RAM?
Which one can support a faster processor?

They both top out at 1ghz. They both top out at 512mb RAM. I'd go with the T21 if you plan on moving around with the laptop alot or the A22m if you plan to keep the laptop on a desk most of the time.

they both will support most any current ATA HDD..
no SATA, PATA only..
as for the cpu, i don't know..
brentpresley would be able to tell you if he catches this thread..
otherwise you can check the hardware maintenance manual..
it will give you a fair idea if the cpu's are swappable..

I had an A22M, that had wireless built-in, if yours has that as well, I'd go with that.
Built-in wifi is visible from the outside, when you look at the sides at the top of the open LCD-lid. It should show some inch-long 'ribbed' pieces of plastic.
The A22m also has both a floppy and a CD drive, whereas the T21 has only one slot for (exchangeable) CD or floppy drives.

Yes they are interchangeable....you can remove them by following the directions in the corresponding Hardware Maintenance Manual.superman_06 wrote:How do I get the cpu out? Are they interchange-able?
NOTE: If you move the 1gz CPU from the A22 to the T21, you should look for a T22 fan, for keeping your system cooler.

Check the Power Options in Control Panel and programs like Battery Maximizer. They may not be set to use max. power (works only with both battery AND adapter connected).

I checked the power options... where it says power scemes it says max power. I also uninstalled the processor through the control panel... Windows says its a 696Mhz once I restarted the computer. Should I be tring to find an updated driver for the spu?Does this forum have a classifed section? I would like to upgrade the fan like you all suggested, where can I find one?

Re: A22m price
At the risk of offending, I'll bite on this.
I'll start by saying that the unfortunate thing about machines like this that they have a greater value to the owner than someone buying it. Because, by and large they are a commodity that is rapidly running out of PERCEIVED lifespan. Based on what I've seen both here and one ebay (I've looked a lot since I have parts for an A22m, but need a good MB), I'd say that the value would be somewhere North of $150, but you'd probably struggle to get close to $200. That's because, faster machines like the A30 and T23 are falling into that price range.
You might be able to feel a little better about it by selling off a couple of things seperately or keeping them such as the dock (which should work with your T) or the better battery and selling the machine with the bad one. Typically, a bad battery will not drop the price as much as a good one will bring when sold seperately. Hope that make sense. Good luck on this.

If you are using IE, I'd start by going to "Tools", "Internet Options", then the "Advanced" tab to see what all your stuff is set to. You may need to check or uncheck something in there.superman_06 wrote:Another software question..I am on other forums when I am on the t21 with XP eventhough I click on the "Remeber me" box, it signs me out every cople minutes.
