Would a dim lcd be an inverter or backlight?

#1 Post by SaberX » Sun May 20, 2007 7:54 am

The T21 i just got is working great,i'm happy with it.
But the lcd is a little dark compared to other laptop.Out side in the daylight you can hardly see the screen.
I have serched and looked on e-bay about inverters and backlights and thay both say that a bad one will get the LCD dim.

I want to know what to look for to brighting the LCD up.

Thanks
Bill

I found this back light on e-bay.Would this be the one for my T21 with a 14.1"?
I'm thinking it is but want to make sure.

I believe the T2X 14.1" LCDs are interchangeable. I purchased a T22-labeled lamp from that same seller, and it was a perfect fit for a T23.

Does the screen have a yellow/red/pink tint to it when it hasn't been used for a while? Does it seem to get brighter if you leave it on for a while?

I cant realy say it has any yellow/red/pink tint to it.
It's just as if you turn down the brightness to about half. But it's on full.
And it flickers darker a few times every now and than.
After about 5 or 10 min's running it does get just a little brighter. Not much.

All of the backlight problems I've seen have had to do with a red/pink tint that goes away after "warming up". I wonder if your issue is with the inverter, especially if it flickers sometimes.

I just looked on e-bay and found this....
http://cgi.ebay.ca/IBM-T20-T21-T22-T23- ... dZViewItem

So for $25.00 shipped for the backlight and $10.00 shiped for the inverter. And installing both i should have a good bright screen.
OR maybe i will look for a SXGA lcd for it and put that 35.00 into it.

If you decide to try fixing the XGA, I'd suggest buying one component at a time. Then you would save a few bucks if the problem is solved with the first one.

Todat i was useing my friends new T60P(15.4 widescreen). And useing his T60P and my T21 side by side you could realy see a yellow and or red tint to the screen.

I'm guessing i should go for the backlight. And the inverter is only $10.00 more so i may just go for that one also.

But i'm also thinking now that i never did anything like this befor. With my luck things will go wrong.

Yeah, replacing the backlight can be pretty difficult. And it's pretty easy to break the lamp with it being so thin. But if you take it slow and are handy with a soldering iron, it's not too bad.
