Is there any way to get 8 hour battery life on a T23 like the X30 guys are getting?

you could install battery maximizer from ibm. Apparently it and three other associated programs give the ability for the thinkpad to switch to a 733mhz clock speed and therefore less power consumption

I've never done it, since I don't ever really need to be off the grid much, but if you tried and the reports were good I'd consider it.

I don't think that you'd get 8 hours though.

Out of a new battery you can get a max. of 3-3.5 hours.
Forget about more, unless you want to carry spares or an external battery of some off-the-wall model.
