a little help please

hello everyone i am new to this forum my name is Paolo and i own an Ibm Thinkpad P3 700Mhz 192Mb of Ram and 20GB hard drive. I am looking to upgrade but i dont know it it will handle it. i added a WD 80 GB HDD and it took that fine but memory im not too sure. i was looking to add a 512MB stick the stick is PC133 i tried searching google but i can't find anything. any help would be greatly appreciated and i am also sorry if i posted in the wrong section.

This is a T20, right? You need low-density (i.e. 8 chips on each side, 16 chips total) PC100 modules. The biggest module you can use is 256MB, so you can have up to 2x256MB = 512MB total. Look for 33L3069 or 33L3070 on eBay. If you don't like eBay, this forum is the cheapest alternative, followed by crucial.com and 18004memory.com.

ok so 512 is ok here is the ram i was interested in http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do ... id=RAM.187 and i believe i saw that mine was an iseries then it said type 1171

Hmm, according to both the Tiwbook and crucial.com, the biggest module the i Series PIII 1171 can use is only 128MB PC100 or PC133. I suspect that with the latest BIOS version, you can use a low-density 256MB PC100 (i.e. part numbers 33L3069 or 33L3070) to max out at 320MB (motherboard already has 64MB soldered memory). No, you definitely can't use 512MB modules like the one you're considering.
