New battery issues

Greetings All,
I have a T23 2647-BU5 which is supposed to compare to a 2647-2TU. We purchased a new battery OEM. It did not charge at all. I performed the procedure as specified by IBM of removing the battery and plugging in with just the AC adapter and it will power up. The latest Battery Miser software showed an Error with a Red X. We have sent the battery back for a replacement but in the interim I was wondering if there is something else not up to par that we need to check. Any assistance greatly appreciated. OS is WinXP Pro 1-2CPU as stated on COA on back of the laptop

I would just wait and see what the new battery does...because batteries can be faulty...
