It is not your inverter. The inverter provides power to the backlight so if the screen is bright and white where it is supposed to be, then it is working fine.
The problem with the line and the 1/4 of the screen not operating correctly can be in three places (in my opinion):
- cable
- LCD panel
- motherboard
Here are some things you might want to check:
- plug an external monitor into the VGA port on the back of the laptop. Does that work correctly? If it does not work properly then there may be a problem with the video controller on the motherboard. If it does work fine, then the motherboard is probably working (there could still be a problem that only shows up on the LCD).
- remove both ends of the video ribbon cable (from motherboard and back of LCD panel) and put them back. There may be a dirty or loose connection and sometimes this will help.
- move the lid back and forth and put some gentle pressure on the back of the lid (NOT the actual display). Does that help or make the problem worse?
The best way to determine where the problem is would be to replace the whole lid (LCD panel, cable, inverter) and see if the same problem shows up on the "new" panel. This is usually the most expensive "solution". If the "new" panel works fine, then the problem was with your old cable or panel. If the "new" panel does not work (shows the same problem), then the problem is on the motherboard.
