T30 last TP with serial port ?

#1 Post by oxygen14 » Fri Jul 13, 2007 4:56 pm

As I will sell my T22 soon, and would like to keep using my GPS receiver with RS-232 port, or someday connect to an unix box through a serial port, which TP in the T or X family (faster than T22) still has the 9-pin com port ? I also have an USB adapter that works with any OS but USB ports are a rare resource on TP's unlike modern desktop mobos with 8+ USB's ... I will be able to buy a new TP in a few months. Thanks for advice !

AFAIK, the T30 is the last t-series thinkpad to have a serial port. however, newer thinkpads like the T60 have the option to get an ultrabay adapter with serial/parallel ports on them, you might want to look into that option.

I am not sure if this option was available for the T4x.
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Just get a USB-to-serial adapter. They are very cheap on Newegg.com .
