T22 freezes after a long standby

#1 Post by tomer » Tue Jul 24, 2007 8:07 am

my T22 constantly freezing (which forces me to hard reboot it by the power button), after i take it out of standby mode and start playing a video file.
I'm constantly running Mobmeter and this happens usually when the CPU and HDD temps are low at around 33 degrees celcius.
Is it trying to say.."I'm dying....put me back to sleep.."...?

You say it only does this when playing a movie afterwards? Try making it freeze and then leave it for 10-20 min to see if it does something. Often times a long freeze will wake up in a BSOD, pointing to an OS error.

I've just tried that..nothing happened. the only thing that works is the keyboard control over the special functions such as the monitor's brightness and the light at the top of monitor which I'm able to turn on. the fan is also working. .any idea?

Can you CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring up the Task Manager during the "freeze"?

Is it a particular video file that is causing the problem or ALL video files?

Does the file(s) play normally IF the laptop was never put into standby mode?

nope, can't do anything . all video files cause this problem after a long standby.
If I restart it and play the file, it plays normally.

just a suggestion here, but have you tried uninstalling Winamp through Add/Remove Programs and then re-installing it? The video files you mention, are they DVD vid files or .mpeg, .flv??

EDIT: this is an interesting thread possibly about that:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=163105

I suggest you try another media player.

avi files or mpeg. normally codes with divx. why would uninstalling and reinstalling winamp should help...? this doesn't happen all the time and i'm quite sure it will happen again if I use VLC to play video files after a long standby

My gut feeling says it's the memory (being a memory test engineer, that's not a huge leap :) ). There have been problems that I know of for some memories when exiting the "power down" mode which I believe is used in standby. If you can, either swap out all of your modules with others or if you have two, remove one of them. Repeat your standby/view video file sequence and see if that helps.

Your comment about hibernation not doing this is leading me to this conclusion. In standby, the memory is active, albeit at a lower power level. Hibernation, on the other hand, copies your memory's contents into a disk file for retrieval later on, before powering down everything.

thanks. i've tried removing one module and switching between them with same results..works fine until i put it to standby and play again...i did notice something new - this only happens with 720x400 and 720x544 video files..! I'm using fffdshow ver Oct 12 2004 ...could this be the problem? i'll try to upgrade it and see if there's any difference.

RE:Video playing crashes

Have you tried reinstalling your video card drivers? I've heard of a similar problem with sound playback due to the sound driver not sleeping properly.
