"EXTERNAL" Battery Charger

#1 Post by oldbob » Tue Jul 31, 2007 11:06 am

Question:
Does anyone make an "external" battery charger for Thinkpad batteries ???

Situation:
I have two batteries and I would like to keep them both charged without swapping them in & out of the bottom of the notebook.

What I'm looking for is "something" that would hold a battery [electrically connected] and I plug my AC charger into, rather then the back of the notebook.

Does this exist ???

I think I may have answered my own question.

BUT, this is much more then I wanted !!

What I want is an "adapter plug" in the $5 to $10 range, where I used my own AC adapter.

The external charger you referenced in the link is the only one that I know of for T21 batteries. The reason for the cost is that there's a charging circuit inside that charger; you can't simply connect your AC adapter directly across the battery terminals. You can find those external chargers on eBay at times for about $20. Search for 02K6642. The 02K6718/9 part number is referenced in the Hardware Maintenance Manual as being for NiMh batteries, which you probably do not have.

edit: Ah, I see that the 02K6719 is actually for Li-Ion AND NiMh so you should be okay with either charger.

Everybody,

I think I'll forget about it. The price of the available hardware is the same a another battery.

And as Ray suggested there is probably additional "charger circuitry" between the jack on the back and the connector in the battery bay.

Thanks for your thoughts.
