New motherboard for T30

#1 Post by longfellow6-6 » Tue Jul 31, 2007 5:28 pm

Hi,

Let me just say thanks in advance for all the great feedback.

I have a T30 with the S chip. It will do the series of 4 beeps , 4 times - s chip, motherboard problem

In looking of ebay, I find motherboards for T30s but not the FRU number that is list on the IBM/Levano support site.

My questions are; will this other board work?
They say it will support up to 1.8 CPU (mine is 1.6 or 1.8 I can't recall)

If it is the s chip, could that be easily replaced?
I have not done any board type soldering. More like speaker wire on boom box type stuff.

I have already done a tear down and I re-seated the chip. (thanks to Ray and others here). and reassembled

As an FYI, I just turned it on and I got the IBM splash a couple of times. It would also allow me to select F1 for BIOS or Fx for boot drive. On all cases it would stop there. Now it has returned to the 4 beeps scenario.

It is a Type 2366-B2U

Again, many thanks for the ongoing support here

Were the beeps 1-3-3-1? If so, those are memory beeps. I would make sure that you test the ram slots, since the T30s 2nd ram slot has a tendancy to go bad.

Nope,

It is 4-4-4-4 which this forum has confirmed and directed me here...

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46018

Symptom or error=Four cycles of four short beeps and a blank screen.
Service part or action, in sequence = System board (Security chip)

When I tore down the T30, I was able to feel the s-chip seat into place when I pushed on it.
Is this suppose to be a soldered connection or a plug in as with the CPU

Thanks
