T30 - Power-/Battery status LEDs won´t work after LCD replac

#1 Post by Memphis » Fri Aug 03, 2007 10:19 am

Had troubles with the LCD suddenly not working anymore (backlight ok, but no pic at all), had it posted here http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=45572
In this stage, the LEDs, which are on the inverter board, worked properly.
Gave the thinkpad to a repair shop, and as they had another T30-LCD on store, they could swap them with the other one working, so it was the original LCD, which was the probable cause.
I let them change it, as the change itself was made for not to much money, and quickly.
After getting it back my mail, found, that now both LEDs aren´t working any longer, neither the power - nor the battery status LEDs (neither amber nor green, depending on the battery charge).
Opened the bezel by myself, everything fine.
Brought the unit to this shop and they decline any responsibility for that, pointing out, that the unit was shipped and this could have caused that.
However the unit was properly packed and cushioned, and no evidence of damage was seen either to the packaging material or the unit itself, so I guess raising claims to the post for having caused that will result in a decline of responsibility by the them.

Demanding the original status of the unit upon reception, they claim, that they didn´t pay any intention to those LEDs, so they can´t confirm them either having been working or not.

Now, before getting another Inverter to check the error source, does anyone have an idea of what can be another reason for the LEDs not working, provided, that all cables are fixed, new LCD is properly working?

The question is whether they changed the inverter together with the LCD panel. Since you say the LCDs originally worked, it would seem that's the case and that they inadvertently used an inverter with defective LCDs as a replacement. Might be useful to ask about this, and if this is really the case request the return of the original inverter.
