Last Try, T30 LCD
Last Try, T30 LCD
I foolishly bought a T30 "blem" off of ebay. Only because I 've alway's wanted one, anyway here's my ques. Which LCD's will the T30 2366-85U work with??
I'm not asking for anyone to do My homework, only asking for your experience & knowledge.
My (bad) LCD=27L0705, the IBM spec's show compatable's as 11P8222, 8272, 8293, 8294. Do these req. the LCD cable & inverter to also be replaced ?
Are there any other Thinkpad Model's LCD that can be swapped out that will work in the T30 ?
Hope this will generate a few reply's, and thank you in advance. JD
P.S. Forgot to say; The T30 work's great connected to a Monitor.

No image on the display can typically be caused by 3 possible prob's:
Bad LCD panel;
Bad Inverter;
Bad/loose cable.
Since you know the video is working, you could check the cable and replace the inverter for under $30.
Or do what I did recently and just replace the whole mess with a new panel and make sure it includes a new cable and inverter.
As far as compatibilty goes, just stay with the recommended PNs and you'll be fine.

I have old T20...it was turned off for about 6 month. when I truned lcd on and couldn't see anything on Lcd. when laptop is connected the monitor desktop shows up. I look at lcd then I reliaze it that lcd also have desktop but its bearly viewable. Lcd was very dull. Reading your post realize me that I need to change either invertor or CCFL/Backlight. Can you tell me where to buy n how to change it?tfflivemb2 wrote:Have you tried looking VERY closely at the screen to make sure that the image isn't dim? If it is, then you can throw in a 4th option, though not a pleasant one....
4. CCFL/Backlight - ~$20 shipped, but a nightmare for most to replace.
Thanks in Advance.

As tfflivemb2 pointed out, it's very hard to change the backlight, so don't even atempt it. The inverter is easier -- just follow the instructions in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
The inverter that you need has part number 10L1402. eBay is the best source, with the cheapest one currently being $9.50 shipped.

re:LCD
If it's just a backlight problem there should be something on the screen, just so dark you can't see it. Usually, I take a bright, unidirectional lamp (usually a clamp-lamp) and set the running screen I need to test directly on it with the other lights in the room off. You should be able to see part of the display this way if your backlight is dead. Otherwise, it's usually inverter.

Thanks pianowizard It is easy but its expensive. Actually it is very old T20 pIII 650(2647-21u) n I think it is not worth to spend more then $30 $40. So I'll edit my request for advice.pianowizard wrote:Replace the whole LCD panel.NCJC wrote:Any advice that can make my project easier

Re: re:LCD
That's not quite true. The inverter powers the CCFL/backlight, which lights the LCD. If the inverter isn't working, then the LCD doesn't light up. If the backlight is burnt out, the LCD still doesn't light up. It is the same end result. The image will still display faintly.truk wrote:If it's just a backlight problem there should be something on the screen, just so dark you can't see it. Just because there is an image, one cannot automatically determine whether it is the inverter or the CCFL....just that it is generally one of the two...

Buy a cheap "defective" display (LCD panel, cable and inverter) and start swapping those three components, since one of the three may be defective in your machine. That gives you a 2/3 chance of locating and fixing the backlight problem (if the defective component in the purchased display isn't the same one as in your display), and unless the problem isn't due to the display at all, but to some other cause (mainboard?) you have a 100% chance of locating the problem component. Naturally that assumes that only one of the three components is defective in each display.Actually it is very old T20 pIII 650(2647-21u) n I think it is not worth to spend more then $30 $40. So I'll edit my request for advice."Any advice that can make my project easier n cheaper."
You could also get very lucky indeed, as I was recently, and find that the "defective" display you bought so cheaply isn't really defective at all

If I were you, I would use this as an excuse to upgrade to a T23 and sell the T20 for parts. It's a good upgrade, e.g. faster processor, up to 1GB RAM, two USB ports, etc.NCJC wrote:"Any advice that can make my project easier n cheaper."
