T30 onboard ethernet does not seem to be working

#1 Post by motero99 » Tue Sep 04, 2007 5:25 pm

My daughter has a T30 2366-41U. The onboard ethernet does not seem to work. In XP I get a yellow triangle and a message that the connection has limited or no connectivity. Thinking I might have a bad ethernet cable, I have moved it to locations where I have a for sure working cable. I get the same error. I tried rolling back the driver and then updating and there was no difference. There do not seem to be any new drivers at the Lenovo/IBM site. If I do an IPCONFIG, I see that there is no IP address. RENEW gets it an address, but the warning still is there. It used to work, but I installed an Atheros wirleless card and used the hacks I found in this forum. She has not used the local connection since then, only the wireless. I would like to determine what is causing the wired connection to fail. Any ideas? Could the bios hacks for the wireless card have stepped on something that is affecting the wired card?

A good way to test is boot from a live linux CD ..

FYI I have a T30 with the Atheros mini pci card and hack and the ehternet still works.

however the atheros was a pain in the [censored] to get giong. I was sure the card or my modificiation was fried so I tried under linux and it worked at 54mbs .. I went back to XP after gaining confidence and went through 2-3 drivers and settings before it worked. maybe you have the same problem with the ethernet , if that fails the ethernet should be fairly easy to replace.

Take a good flashlight and check the pins too, one could have gotten bent by somone trying to plug in either a USB or RJ11 telephone plug.
Just some thoughts. Another alternative might be to do a reinstall from scratch from the recovery partition.
I alway try to go that extra mile at work, problem is the boss always finds me and brings me back
