looking for a laptop without the AC97 (48khz) please help

#1 Post by Lyonesse222 » Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:35 am

Hi
Im looking for a laptop preferably a Thinkpad to act as a music server but it needs a sound chip that isnt based on the AC97 codec! it needs a simple 16 bit 44.1khz sound chip to drive my external dac.
Is the T20 series of thinkpads fitted with a 44.1khz sound chip or is it the usual ac97 chip that can be found in the T40 series?

Thanks in advance

Jack

I beleive you are out of luck with the T2x series. This is what the tawbook.pdf mentions about the sound system in the T23:
Soft audio / ICH AC97 controller / SoundBlaster compatible / CS4299 AC97 codec /
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:
