Yet another t-30 Wifi problem

#1 Post by Davemci » Wed Sep 26, 2007 9:34 am

I sold my T30 to a friend of mine and he can't get the WIFI working at his house. He has a combo DSL and Router box that was supplied by his phone company. My T-30 has the internal WIFI/Modem card and is 802.11B. The problem is the T-30 WIFI works everywhere except at his house. He has several other laptops with 802.11B and G WIFIs that work fine at his house. I had him check his router and it is set-up to accept both B and G connections. He also disabled all security (WEP/WPA, etc). He's placed the T-30 right next to the router and it still says there are no connections available. It's not even seeing the signal from his router or it's just plain ignoring it for some reason. He has a cordless phone that also works in the 2.4GHZ range, but has turned it off. The T-30 was restored to original using the restore CDs with Win XP Pro and all the updates for Service pack 2 are installed. If he cables the T-30 to the router it works fine. I'm at a loss to figure out how come it isn't detecting a signal when other laptops some with just 802.11B WIFIs work fine. Sorry I can't supply the model number, It's a T-30 2.4GHZ, SXGA, internal WIFI/Modem card, 512Meg RAM. Anyone have any ideas?

If Windows is controlling the wifi-connection, click on Start/Run, type in services.msc and click OK. In the new window, scroll down till Windows Zero Configuration, rightclick it and click on Start.
Now try it again.
If TP Access Connections is ruling the roost, try and let Windows take over. Rightclick on the wifi-symbol in the System Tray and click on "Let Windows control it" (or something like it. Then do the first thing I typed.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I had my friend try your suggestion but it didn't work. I guess I drive down and try it for myself. He isn't very computer literate. I'm also wondering of the Thinkpad drivers for the card are better or different then the Windows drivers.
