Left Mouse Button Worn

My left mouse button drops an odd click every now & again which is annoying !!! I thought I could bend the silver piece of metal up under the keyboard, but on further investigation this seems nothing to do with the left click action.

I guess I'll have to invest in another keyboard but am worried I'll have same problem as I'm guessing this is the most used button. I am determined to get some use out of her yet. I have a desktop for more intensive applications, but find the laptop meets my needs. I don't intend to buy another till Win 2k extended support ends in 3 yrs time.
