How do you know the CPU is not overheating if the computer shuts down after only a few minutes?

A possible problem might be that there is no thermal transfer pad or paste (Arctic Silver being the best known) between the fan and the CPU.

But get the Hardware Maintenance Manual before you start checking.

I agree that it sounds like you are having heat issues. If you are running WinXP, I would try running MobileMeter, to see what temp the CPU gets to before it shuts off.

You can't always feel the heat with your hand. It is the core temp of the CPU that determines if it is too hot...

The temperature is not always the same, about 41-55.
