Upgrading T23 RAM to 1 GB

#1 Post by mdorn » Mon Oct 15, 2007 9:07 am

Hi,

I've been working with my 512 MB RAM T23 (2 256 MB chips) for years and recently decided to max out its memory. I bought 2 512 MB PC133 SODIMMs from archmemory.com, but when I install them, the machine just gives a blank screen when I start it up. I upgraded the BIOS to the newest one (from 2006), but no dice.

Does anybody know of any requirements I might be missing? Do I need to buy a particular kind of RAM?

Thanks,

Matt

Have you tried to reinstall your old memory???

Let us know. The memory sockets are close to an area that could cause this problem and just removing and reinstalling the memory could have caused this problem to come up.

Good luck.

Do you have a link to the memory you bought? As far as I know a T23 takes low density RAM. (8 chips per side).

Yes, the old memory is working fine. I tried to install the new chips 2 or 3 times, each time with the same problem.

8 chips per side of the DIMM? I think each has 8 chips total (4 per side of the DIMM). I don't have them with me right now.

I think this is the link I used to buy the memory:

http://www.archmemory.com/index.asp?Pag ... ProdID=359

But it doesn't look anything like the picture. Does that picture represent what the DIMM should look like?

Thanks,

Matt

Yes low density RAM has 8 chips per side. I'll let a T23 owner confirm this before I tell you for sure it's the RAM. So hopefully one will chime in here and confirm.

High or low density shouldn't matter as long as they're both the same. See this:

Have you tried the chips one at a time? It's possible one of them is defective.
