Little button that is pressed when the screen is closed fell

#1 Post by cmpcpro » Sat Oct 20, 2007 3:19 pm

Hi all, directly above my Insert key is a hole and in that hole is the button that the screen triggers when it is closed. It seems to have fallen in. Is there anyway to fix that?

Thanks

Chris

If it's broken off, you might be able to glue it back on to the keyboard bezel. There's a piece of metal which is attached to the bezel by two plastic "knobs":

Download a copy of the Hardware Maintenance Manual and it will show you the steps needed to remove the bezel (basically the keyboard and the hinge cover).

edit: I'd also be very careful about not powering up the system until you get the button out/fixed. Since it is metal it may cause a short down on the I/O card.

Should you find you need pieces, PM me. I have a slightly used palm rest with a good button assembly that would go for dirt cheap.
