changing the hard drive on a T20

Hi, it seems like this should be simple, but I don't have the instruction manual on the T20 I bought used a few years back. I need to replace a corrupt hard drive. I've located where it is, removed a little thingie exposing the end of it, but I have no idea how to extract the it from the laptop. There doesn't seem to be anything obvious to grab onto. I'd appreciate any help.

Here is the PDF version of the T2x series Hardware Maintenance Manual. The only thing that holds the HDD in place is the friction of the pins and a single screw in the plastic cover.

Thanks, Joe. I saw that and that's what I found confusing. Am I supposed to use the little thing that comes off to grab hold off the hard drive and pull it out? Seems like that's what the illustration shows but I haven't been able to pull it off.

When removing the hard-disk drive open the LCD a little.

There's a raised line in the plastic that extends from the screw hole to the opposite end of the hard drive cover. You are supposed to use your fingernails to pull the drive out. For me, I've found that it's easier to use both thumbs to lift up on the cover. If it's really hard to remove, slide a flat-bladed screwdriver between the cover and the base and then twist. If somebody used the wrong screws on the caddy, the drive will not slide out all that easily.

And yes, the lid of the system needs to be open!

After watching the movie, I discovered my problem. The little plastic thingie (I guess the hard drive cover) comes off, leaving the hard drive inside. In the movie, the cover and hard drive slid out as one. I'll experiment and see if I can get it to do that instead of coming off the hd.

It is supposed to hook over the heads of the screws in the hard drive. You can use a small screwdriver in the hard drive retaining screw hole to push the drive out.

Thanks, I'll try that. Though the hd may just be jammed in there for some reason. I tried pulling it out with tweezers and it was a no-go.
