T23 discharges battery while shut off - Battery Light on

#1 Post by holdenburg » Sun Nov 25, 2007 11:56 pm

Hi Everyone...

I have a T23 that discharges the battery when shut off. The battery light stays after the laptop is shut down even if the A/C adapter is unplugged. Then the the battery discharges. The battery will charge fine once it is back running.

Tonight, I took out the battery when I shut it down this evening and the battery light will then shut off. I will check it out in the morning.

Can anyone shed some light (no pun  ) on this symptom?

Thanks...

I'm guessing that the internal charging circuitry in the battery itself is defective. Can you swap batteries as a test, even if you have to borrow one? A T30 battery would also work as a test, but you'd need a 4.5A AC Adapter.

Hi...
Ok, I do have 2 other batteries I can test on. I will charge one of these and see if this symptom is the same.

Thanks...

Both batteries are bad...

Hi...

After further testing I think both the batteries I have are bad. Does anyone know other than the IBM testing software, how to really test batteries like these?

Also, if my memory suits me ok, the IBM battery testing software just tells you if the battery can be charged to capacity, but is it anything more than that?
