T20 keyboard strange problem. Never seen it. any Help?

#1 Post by junglemike » Mon Nov 26, 2007 1:29 pm

HI, I have some experience at repairing Txx series.
This is what happened to my friend's T20:

Out of nowhere Keyboard started to behave strangely: Most keys don't work @ all. Some register 2 keys when i press them. For example, whey I press "g" it registers "hg", when I press "h" - it it makes space and lowers the brightness. Most keys completely don't work at all. There is no single key that works correctly.

I have Perfectly working T21 - So my first idea was - the keyboard is to blame - maybe he spilled there coffee or smth...
I replace his T20's keyboard with mine T21's. And my keyboard in his computer behaves the same wrong way, and his keyboard on my computer work just fine. So it's 100% not the keyboard.
What could it be?
The problem is that I cannot even enter the bios, b/c F1 and F12 don't work.
Any ideas?

Does an external keyboard (PS2) work? I have no idea why your internal one is playing games, but if an external one works, you can at least set the BIOS parameters and if necessary re-flash the BIOS.

Using the trackpoint, can you check which language keyboard is installed in control panel? But, if you can't enter bios with F1, that doesn't sound good :(

I tried plugging in ps2 keyboard, but it doesn't work, It also doesn't work on my T21 - I think that T20 series only support ps2 mouse but not keyboard. There is a mouse drawing near the ps2 plug.
But I will try a usb keyboard. Didn't think of it b4.

Yea, i can't enter the bios. If i press many keys during power on - it complains about keyboard error, and enters the bios by itself, but since cursor keys don't work either - i can't do a thing.
Don't know what to do next.

If you have a port replicator - one of the small ones that just fit on the back of the laptop - you can attach a PS2 keyboard and it works. I've done this with my own T21.
