Starting a T30 with external keyboard (laptop closed)

#1 Post by wb0gaz » Mon Dec 10, 2007 8:59 am

I have a T30 which has a bad LCD display and keyboard problems, but would make a good desktop machine with external keyboard and display. Only hitch is access to the power button, would require I open the machine to hit the power button to start up. Can the machine be set up to start from button hit on an external (USB or PS2) keyboard? Very tks, Dave.

I don't know if you could get the system to power up via an external keyboard. I would think not. I do know that you can mount the laptop into a port replicator or docking station and use the power button on that piece of gear to power on and off the system. Search for:

02K8667 or 02K8668

on eBay and you will find something like this:

Going price is around $10 if you are patient. It provides all the ports you would probably ever use; monitor, USB, keyboard, mouse, serial, parallel, floppy, ethernet, modem.

The docking station takes care of the need, as this will be used as a desktop. That was the ideal solution for my application,
Dave
