T21 – Time to upgrade memmory module?

#1 Post by jason2004 » Tue Dec 11, 2007 5:42 pm

Currently I have 2x128MB memory modules. Can you suggest where can I buy inexpensive modules and what is the maximum that I can have for my model?

Thinkpad T21 (2647), Pentium III, 800Mhz, 256MB

Is there anything else that I should consider upgrading?

"Inexpensive" modules could be had here in the Marketplace or on eBay (if you are lucky). Maximum for your T21 is 512MB (2 x 256MB low density [16 chip] modules). You might want to consider upgrading your hard drive to a faster model, assuming you have something like a 4200 rpm version. 5400 or 7200 rpm can add a noticeable boost to boot and program loading times.

Part numbers would be appreciated also. I’ve just realized that I was tricked. I was under impression that last year I have purchased 256MB module (FRU: 38L3885) off the Ebay – but as I see know at computer properties this is 128MB not 256MB module.

Original 128MB FRU: 20L0265.

Where is Marketplace and what is price?

Below is a link to the Marketplace forum. Start a new thread, add info about what you are looking for, and what price you'd pay for it.

When you start looking for memory modules on eBay that are advertised by IBM FRU that tends to increase the selling price. The FRU in question is 33L3070 or 33L3069. If the eBay seller has that in their description you can almost bet that it will sell for more than, say, a Micron part number I'm currently looking at sniping for about $20 :) .

The "Marketplace" is a conference here at thinkpads.com:

edit: As far as other part numbers... there's many different manufacturers of 256MB modules which will work in your T21. Make sure you are getting ones which have 16 memory chips on the module. If you see one that only has 8, it won't work in the T21.

You might try your local Craiglist in NYC :
