Interesting T23 (co-branded system)

#1 Post by rkawakami » Mon Dec 24, 2007 10:15 pm

Received a parts/repair T23 today in pieces. An eBay seller had removed the SXGA+ panel from a 2647-9SK and was selling the panel and the rest of the system in separate auctions. I ended up winning both so I put the panel back into the lid, replaced the taped up and non-functional (:banghead:) backup battery with a proper one, installed a stick of PC133 memory and powered it up. Got the 0187 error prior to entering the BIOS setup page, which was not unexpected since the seller had already said there was a problem with the motherboard. The display is bright and doesn't appear to have any dead/stuck pixels. All this is not the interesting part. This is:

Top of the T23 (65KB)
Bottom of the T23 (112KB)
Open T23 (97KB)
Keyboard of the T23 (116KB)

Anybody else, outside of Korea, ever see one of these LG (Lucky Goldstar) branded T23 systems in person?

......doesn't "LG" mean, "Life's Good"?

Someone else here also recently came across an LG co-branded system not long ago, I can't remember which community I ran across it. I'm looking......

Very unique. If it were mine I'd probably keep it for the collection..... and the SXGA+ screen.

I know you have some unusual stuff in your T2x stable, but this has to be the rarest one among them all: LG-branded, wi-fi enabled, SXGA+ version of T23...what's the other alphabet, BTW? Korean?

My only question to you, sir: what's next?

Have fun and continue to share like you always have... :thumbs-UP:

I didn't think that these systems (LG branded) would be all that rare. I've seen the FRU differences in many of the Hardware Maintenance Manuals when it comes to the lid or palmrest. It appears that the "xxK" type models signify Korean systems and probably account for the different logos. IBM and LG had a joint venture several years ago that stretched from 1996 to 2004 and sold equipment only for the Korean domestic market:

http://news.zdnet.co.uk/itmanagement/0, ... 172,00.htm

I would have thought that by now more of these systems would have shown up on the used market. But then again, I don't spend all of my time perusing eBay :) .

@ajkula66: Yes, I believe that the secondary lettering is Korean. As far as what's next, I don't know. I once said to somebody that I didn't want to stray too much from the 600X line since I had several systems and the accessories to go with them. Then I discovered the T23 and rest is history.

These co-branded machines are quite common, I have seen several so far, the last a 240X I believe. The article from the Register says a lot. Wonder if they co-branded all machines during that period, or only select models they thought would sell.
