So a while ago I upgraded my T20 from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. I'm getting ready to give away the T20 and wanted to restore it to it's original state. I used the Product Restore CD but now I keep getting the "blue screen of death" stating UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.
Wondering if the drive is NTFS and that's causing a problem.
Anyone got any ideas how I can reformat and do a clean install using the Product Recovery CD?
Help restoring T20
First off,
Welcome to the forum!
OK, now I have a question:
If you're giving the system away, can I offer you my shipping address? You can even keep the HDD!
I don't remember if the recovery disks can repartition and format, but you can use any WXP installation disk to delete the partition, re-create it, and format the HDD in NTFS. After formatting, shut down the laptop and restart using the recovery disks to install.

Common sense to some of us is unfortunately the higher education others strive to attain.
See if anyone you know has a W98 disk, it can't be the upgrade. When you load it into the CD and then restart, it should ask you to redo the partition. Actually....if you have a floppy, (USB or Drive Bay), you can use/find someone that has W98 on a desktop and have them make you a boot disk onto a floppy. This gives you the DOS tools to reformat and fdisk the HDD. I would HIGHLY recommend finding and using the original restore disks, (should be pretty easy to find), because it will make the process go much smoother.
