replaced MB and now get USB error

#1 Post by motero99 » Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:53 pm

I just replaced the MB on a T30 - 41U with one from an 81U. They have the same specs except for the OS. When I tried to boot from my XP hard drive, it took 15 minutes to get to the desktop and another 15 to get the icons. I did check and it was running at 100%. After it had been up awhile, I got an error that the USB ws overloaded (can't remember the exact text). It said to click on the icon to fix the problem, then the computer locked up. If I boot in safe mode, I get up to a desktop and then it locks up when I try to get to device manager. I have a hunch the problem is USB related as I have another disk for the same machine with a base Win2000 install from the recovery disks. It comes up nicely. It also has 4 unknown devices, one of which I believe is the onboard USB. Is there a connector for the onboard USB that needs to be plugged in? Either the new MB has a bad USB, I missed a connector, or there is something else going on. Any ideas?

Onboard USB is exactly that, on the board (systemboard). I'd load up a live Linux CD and if USB fails the systemboard is bad. Knoppix is as good as any.
