Zoom 4412 wireless card

#1 Post by fleamourian » Thu Jan 24, 2008 8:58 pm

I have tried six of these cards, all have failed with the link light flashing but no connection. I think it is time to try another brand. No one has heard of a faulty batch, could my system be spiking them somehow???

My trusty Netgear adaptor works like a horse but is silver, a look I thought was quite snazzy until my brother pointed out it would look better in black!

What do you reckon?

Ok, a black PCMCIA WiFi adapter I'd recommend - SMC Wireless Cardbus Adapter SMCWCB-G

It has an Atheros chipset and the range is very good. Runs great in Linux too if anyone cares ...

@HarryC,
I have that same (looking) card, but with model SMC2835W EU.
It's also the EZ Connect g.
Does the EU in the model mean, it can/should not be used in USA?
It does pick up (in USA) better than e.g. a Netgear WG511 V2.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

The spec sheet says;

OPERATING CHANNEL
• 11 Channels (US, Canada)
• 13 Channels (Europe)
• 14 Channels (Japan)

So my opinion is that if anything the EU simply means that it supports European wireless standards in addition to US standards/channels.

IBM PCMCIA card bus controller

#5 Post by fleamourian » Tue Jan 29, 2008 9:07 am

How would I go about finding what type of PC card bus controller is on my Thinkpad? (In order to help Zoom support.)

I have now ordered a Buffalo WLICBG54S. Both the Zoom & the Buffalo card are up to 125mbps transfer speed & I wanted faster wireless transfer rates when backing up my tower to a 2ndry HDD in Ultrabay adaptor.
