Booting without ultrabay or hard drive?
Booting without ultrabay or hard drive?
Will removing the ultrabay device (leaving the slot empty) and the hard drive prevent the system from booting? If that caused a problem would it give an error code (beeps). Removed the memory and it gives the no memory beep code. But when trying to boot it up to BIOS I only get a blank well lit screen with feint vertical lines. Could this be caused by not having anything in both the HD slot and the ultrabay slot?

Is this problem with your T30? ( http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?p=381549 )
If so, in the future you should probably post to your existing thread to keep everything in one place (and provide a complete picture of what's going on).
With memory installed, you can remove both the hard drive and Ultrabay drive and the system should still boot "normally". By that I mean, the IBM splash screen will appear, after which you might get a message on your screen saying something to the effect that a bootable operating system was not found.
If you also remove all memory, you should get a beep code (1-3-3-1 usually). If you are not even getting that, then there's some other problem with the motherboard. Faint lines on the screen (when there should be either the splash screen or BIOS menu) would also point to a motherboard issue.
