[
quote="Merc"]Thanks to this post I bought a 7200 RPM HDD. As I saiud it is a SATA 150 but it has 16MB cache. I used HD Clone to copy my 5400RPM HDD. All I can say is I am incredibly impressed with the performance increase. I expected a very small speed up but it is more akin to going from 256MB of RAM to 1GB. Absolutely knocked me off my seat.

I am an experienced builder but would never have suspected that going from a 5400RPM to a 7200 RPM would have such a profound effect on performance. I think the 16MB of cache is a big player in this as well.

The Apricorn external enclosure is outstanding as well. As with all of Apricorn's products it is extremely well made but this thing can take SATA and PATA and is very easy to load a drive in. Slide a switch and the tray pops out.

All in all a great experience and money well spent. The Apricorn comes with some clone software but I trust my HD Clone so used that. Great enclosure available here http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6817155602 if anyone is interested.

Thanks for talking me into this upgrade and to anyone thinking about it all I can say is go for it. Just get a 16MB cache drive. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6822145181
For my T20 and T23 I used to walk into a retail store and just asked for a laptop hard drive. Now, I got to know laptop HDD comes in SATA and PATA types. Just read somewhere that the new SATA is better than PATA. I'm now shopping for a 80GB HDD for my T42 (2373-6ZU). Would the above Hitachi with 16MB cache from Newegg work in my T42? Thanks.

Edit: Silly question. How can I place the above quote on a white background like the others?

Thanks Robert. Now, back to the newegg catalog again.....

Edit: I just ordered the Hitachi HDD 7200rpm with 16MB cache from Newegg, based on the ravings from users over its quiet, low heat, fast speed benefits. Just hope it will live up to its reputation, at least for me.

I'm still looking for a 7200 rpm harddisk ... didn't had any luck finding one on ebay. Shipment costs and prices from the states to europe are too expensive :( .
