T20 CPU upgrade?

#1 Post by ehendershot » Sat Feb 16, 2008 4:03 am

hey new to the board and ive got a few questions.

1.) ive got a T20 2647 - T1U. i would like to upgrade to a 1 GHz CPU but so far from what i've read ( yes the search function is your friend :D ) your stock CPU must be at least 800 MHz to upgrade to 1GHz. is this right? i just want verification since i'm currently running at 700.

2.) I also have a 2647 - 44U motherboard/base. what is the difference between the T1U and the 44U types?

3.) the 44U was my original motherboard/base and i recently bought the T1U as a replacement since the 44U didnt appear to be working. the problem with the 44U was when i pressed the power nothing happened. i tried all memory/ battery/ AC combos and nothing worked. all that would happen was the processing light came on for a brief moment when i pushed power , the battery light would go out, and the speakers would pop ( like they briefly got power ). then the battery light would come back on after a second or two. i could wiggle the power button back and forth ( press fast )and the same things would happen. is the board shot or is it salvagable? id like to keep it and "build" another Thinkpad.

i know its alot but thanks for your patience.''

1.) I've done this upgrade several times and the base machine always had at least 800Mhz. It is my understanding that you need a machine with at least 800Mhz to do the upgrade.
2.)
