T30-Possible To Get Full CPU Speed Without Battery?

#1 Post by The Doctor » Tue Feb 19, 2008 9:11 pm

High, not a real frequent visitor here, but you all seem like a nice and knowledgeable crowd.

I have a T30 that I have always used as a desktop, it has never been operated on battery power. It came from the factory with a 1.8 Ghz CPU, which I recently upgraded to a 2.4 with good results :D A few weeks later it seemed to be a bit slow, a check of CPU speed showed it to be running at 1.2 Ghz regardless of load, no change of settings would speed it back up. I also noticed that it had joined the "Blinking Battery Club" recently, but did'nt believe the two were related. Removing the battery stops the blinking, but the slowness remains.

After searching this forum I discovered that a battery is needed for max. CPU speed. Mine is original and wasted. Computer is plugged into a UPS and I don't want to waste money on a battery(if I had lots of money, a newer computer is more appealing). Has anybody come up with a workaround for this? I've seen the "1802 fix" and such, hoping somebody found a way around the battery requirement.

Thanks
Ed

If you're running MS, I don't have the solution for you. In Linux (Kubuntu 7.10) , you can set the mode to "performance" and it will run at top speed regardless of battery condition or presence.

A decent used T30 battery shouldn't run you more than $30 IMHO...

There's a recent thread about similar issue on A31 in R.A,G section...

Good luck.
