t30 external hardrive problem

Hi new to here so be gentle :D just bought a T30 on ebay and I am liking it a lot running service pack 2 xp pro .
Strange problem though When I plug in usb drives my computer will nhot see them even though safely remove hardware and easy eject both do any suggestions how to go about fixing this ?

Hi gunnerob, welcome to the forum,

have a look at point 8 in this thread Essential Hot Fixes and Tweaks in the General Hardware board, hopefully it might help.

You may need the USB Y-splitter to use 2 USB ports, the drive may not get enough power without it.
