XP starting errors on T23 and blue screen

#1 Post by Rahula » Fri Feb 29, 2008 7:18 pm

When starting up the T23 after a Shut Down, or when starting up from Hybernation, the LCD occasionally shows a black screen with just these two sentences:

1. The system could not be restarted from its previous location due to a read failure.

(below it would be the following in a white bar across a black screen:

2. Delete Restoration Data and proceed to Sysem boot menu.

---------
Sometime, after I press Enter, it would boot up my Windows XP Home SP2.

But sometimes after Enter, it display the Blue Screen of Death with a pretty long essay in computerese which I don't understand, but contains the word "physical memory dump".

I have tried replacing the RAMs, but it would persist. So, I revert back to the former RAMs, and yet the above persists.

Can anyone with T23 who has encountered such scenarious give a clue as to what it's all about?

I've got some T23s but have not ever seen this particular problem. My guess would be that the "read error" is from your disk drive and not RAM. The clue is that when you re-start from hibernation, the only thing being "read" is the hibernation file from the disk.

I would recommend first backing up your system onto another drive before running any disk diagnostics, if possible. I also suggest that you run memtest86+ on your memory modules in order to prove/exclude the RAM as being your problem. You can download a copy of that program from here:

To coincide with Ray's suggestions I have a question; Is your memory amount being reported correctly in the BIOS/OS? It sounds like your using two sticks (RAMs). I've seen it before but will wait until you post the results from Ray's suggestions.

Hello,

Like Ray, I think your hard disk drive may be faulty.

I'd test the hard disk drive with the utility provided by the manufacturer, ie :

- DriveFitness (Hitachi),
- Seatools (Seagate or Maxtor),
- HUtil or SHDiag (Samsung),
- Data LifeGuard Diagnostic (Western Digital).

:)

For me, it isn't "faulty" it's "defective". Maybe "currupted" and "fragmented" as well...

Ooooops, excuse me. Of course noooo.

I wanted to say that the HDD is probably defective, indeed.

As you can see, english is not my native language, so, I make mistakes, sometimes (often ? )

In all honesty I thought it was a little soft.

By the way, I'm "Monkey Boy".
