Booting to drive in caddy

#1 Post by karunnt » Thu Mar 13, 2008 11:13 pm

Hi,

I replaced my 40G drive in my T30 by a Seagate 80G drive and installed Ubuntu Linux using the CDROM.

Then I removed the 80G and reinstalled the original 40G (with Windows XP).

Then I put the 80G into a caddy that I inserted into the cdrom slot and pressed F12 to boot into the new OS.

This did not work.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Define "this did not work"...have you gotten into Windows, or nowhere at all?

After I press F12 and select

4. IBA 4.1.07 Slot 0240

I get CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 09 6B E) 91 BA GUID: 40135C01 45AD 11CB B8B6 B076E

DHCP ....

PXE Exiting boot agent

And I am back to selecting which windows version I want to get back to booting from the main hard drive.

No no no no...

Select HDD but before that you have to go into BIOS, select Startup, click on HDD and put the drive which is in the caddy in the first place, save that, and reboot...

Thanks.

I did that and now I do not have to press F12 --- it goes directly to that message sequence above and then default to windows as usual.

It just will not boot the new drive. I think it is something to do with the drive and how it is setup.

I had to swap the new drive with the old on so that I could use the cdrom to install ubuntu but now I think I should have not done that. I should have installed ubuntu with the drive in the caddy and used an external cdrom.

I think I got it. I moved the 'slot' I should have moved the hard drive order. Works now.

Thanks.
