T21 - CPU upgrade dangerous?

#1 Post by pudu1951 » Sat Mar 15, 2008 1:20 pm

Dear experts

I'd like to upgrade my T21 (2647-67G, W2000SP4, 512 MB, 20GB HDD). I've bought a SL53S Intel P3 Mobile 1000/256 CPU and a T22 fan CPU cooler FRU 26p9317. Will these devices work in my T21? Or is there any risk that the mobo is getting damaged?

Thanks in advance

Those are exactly the pieces I'm negotiating for to upgrade mine.

From what I've read, those are the required CPU and fan assembly.

Go for it! If I had those in hand, mine wouldn't run at only 850 any more...

Welcome to the forum! :)

I upgraded my T21 CPU & heatsink/fan a couple years ago and it was easy.

Here is the forum topic: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

Follow the Hardware Maintenance Manual, keep the screws organized and remember to apply a quality thermal paste to the new CPU.

It made a big difference in the performance of my T21, which I had upgraded from Win98 to WinXP.

Good luck and if you have questions or problems, come back here to the forum.
