T20 13.3 to 14.1?

#1 Post by leasure98 » Sun Mar 16, 2008 12:11 am

I just bought ANOTHER T-series from ebay but I discovered it has a 13.3 LCD. So I go googling for a few days and I have 2 questions..
1. Would the 14.1 screen/bezel work on this T20?
2. Seems like there are hundreds of LP133x7 LCD's that were made.
Do I need the exact LP133x7 (P2xx) or can I use another? I see on ebay this armada uses a LP133x7 (XXXX) and this R40 uses a LP133x7 (XXXX)?

Seems like because of the scarcity of 13.3 LCD's, if the 14.1 would fit, I'd be in business. I haven't taken the screen out yet, but all looks the same exept the LCD itself and the "deeper" bezel (that comes in further to see only a 13.3 size LCD)

Thanks to anyone!!

Yes, a 14.1 can be used with your T20. The bezel, LCD, video ribbon cable, and inverter card would need to be changed to go to the 14.1" XGA or SXGA+'s. Of course the best deal would be to find the entire assembly with hinges...... They can be had if your patient, for a reasonable cost. Sometimes you can find a parts donor that are inexpensive.

If you decide that you don't want to go through the trouble, I'll gladly buy that T20 from you, assuming that it works...I love 13.3" LCDs in T2x form factor...

Inverter card is the same between the 13.3" and both 14.1" LCDs (FRU 10L1402), but otherwise you will have to change the parts that phool mentioned.

.....and I was being so careful...... I can also note that the inverter card is the same for the 14.1 SXGA+'s as well after re-reading the HMM. My apologies, I was becoming cross eyed at 2 in the morning....

ajkula66 Why is that you love 13.3's? Is it because the text is tighter? I was reading about the 770Z's and found that one screen is 13.7" and SXGA @ 1280x1024! I was searching fleabay like mad for a 770Z 9549-8AU/8BU.....now that is an unusual screen.

That's the exact reason why I love these...been looking for a 13.3" T23 for years...not really looking, though...more like waiting for one to pop up...

To me, 13.3" is perfect medium for XGA resolution...but that's just me.

770 series is something that I've somehow missed throughout all these years that I've been playing around with ThinkPads...that is a very interesting LCD, though...good luck finding one...

Yeah, it must have been the highest resolution and DPI laptop screen at that time! IBM/Lenovo has always been good at offering high DPI screens:

1024x768 on 10.4" (240Z, S3*)
1400x1050 on 12.1" (X6* tablets)
1440x900 on 13.3" (X300)
1920x1200 on 15.4" (Z6* and T6*)
2048x1536 on 15.0" (R50p)

I don't know of any other laptop manufacturer that has used all of these resolutions on these screen sizes.

For me, XGA is acceptable only for 10.4" or smaller.

Some of the 770X's also came with 13.7" and SXGA @ 1280x1024.
When it comes to finding one, I believe the 770X is easier to find.

Does anyone know if the R40 LCD will work? Both are LP133x7, but the end of the part number is different....i.e. LP133x7 (xxxx)?
I once used an 14.1 LCD from an Omnibook 6000 which worked great. It was the same scenario. Thanks!

I meant from an R30. It's a LP133x7 (C2CC) and the one I need is LP133x7 (F21B). What in heck is the difference?
Where can I go to find out?
Thanks again.

ajkula66:
What's it worth? The lcd needs a new backlight and there are a few
pressure marks. That's all I see wrong with it. It's a 2647-24u with 256MB memory.

If it didn't need a backlight, I'd take it off your hands...this way I'll have to pass, my hands and my eyes have gotten way too bad for me to do my own work...

My assumption would be somewhere around $100...if it's a complete unit...

Good luck.
