t23 fried??

#1 Post by brucehe » Wed Mar 19, 2008 5:23 pm

Hello,

I just had a t23 dropped off with me that had a 30 volt printer power supply plugged into it by mistake. The unit does not power up in my docking station, with battery or power supply. Did it fry the entire system board? Any ideas?

Thanks for any assistance,

Sniff around the heat vent to see if you detect a burnt smell.

No smell? Maybe you got lucky and it blew a fuse, but more than likely not. I wouldn't hold out much hope, but it's certainly worth a look inside to see.

Entire system board? Probably, given the description that NONE of the power inputs are working (DC jack, battery, docking station). The only one you did not mention is the Ultrabay battery. I think that each one of those inputs are protected by separate fuses. If the 30V caused the F2 fuse to blow out, it should not have affected the battery fuse.

Best thing to try is to unplug ALL of the hardware from the system (hard drive, Ultrabay, MiniPCI, ethernet, memory) and see if it powers up with the missing memory beep code (1-3-3-1). If it doesn't do that, "He's dead, Jim".

Thanks for the input. It looks like it is dead. I pulled everything and still nothing. It is a nice machine with a 48GB drive and good display so I will look for a new system board. I will assume the cpu is dead too.

Thanks again,
