T23 Install new backup battery

#1 Post by fwebb » Thu Mar 20, 2008 7:25 am

Kept getting the time/date error for the cmos battery. Bought a new one with the connector attached. Removed the old battery, now can't get the battery plugged in. Do I have to remove the keyboard in order to see what the heck I'm doing? Checked Lenova/IBM site. Keyboard removal movie is different from the text instructions. Any suggestions for a newbie trying this?

It sometimes helps to use small needlenose pliers or a small pocket screwdriver to get it guided in straight. Keyboard removal will help. Don't push too hard. I cleaned off the connector on a mobo once.

Chin Up - Keep Trying

Maybe it's the Aging Eyes syndrome, but I'd offer the opinion that this can be a real pain and is a problem that isn't commonly acknowledged.

Getting that tiny connector pushed onto pins that really aren't visible, being at almost right-angles to your field of vision, can really try one's patience.

I've had the best luck by using the holder itself to push the connector into the socket. This seems to work better than trying to finesse the connector with a dental mirror in one hand and tweezers in the other hand.

If you rotate the connector lightly on the left and up while holding the holder of the battery then it should go easier. Just align the connector with te socket and lightly push.

Another Aging Eyes syndrome patient.

No, you have to remove the keyboard and the palmrest :?

Or use a dentist's mirror and plenty of fine finger feel to get the plug in right. This is also one of my pet peeves, but I have no better suggestions than the others as to how to do this right. A pair of needle-nose pliers can help, though.

Fwebb, keyboard removal is one of the easiest things you can do. Period.

Climbing in bed is harder!

Turn your T23 over. Remove the mini PCI cover. You see a big card, and a small card. With the smaller card towards you, remove the upper screw from that card. (Bigger card doesn't use screws.) Now, see that tiny rubber cast-in pad, below the mini PCI cover? See the screw below and to the right? Remove it.

Now, open up the screen, (just like you would, if you want to use the lappy) and lift off the keyboard. It plugs in, and will un-plug itself.

Really, I was VERY verbose, but you need to remove 2 screws, and pop the KB off.

You won't be able to see much, with the KB off, but it is a little better.
