Can't load OS on T23

#1 Post by cllabri » Thu Mar 27, 2008 10:40 am

I'm trying to get a T23 going for my daughter but it's not going to well.
When she gave it to me it would not boot up so I tried to reload Windows Pro 2K but it wouldn't load. In the process of loading it would stall at about 25% when formating the drive. I tried to use Dban to clean the disk but it would fail so I replaced the hd with another used drive.
I still having the same problem with this drive.
I was able to load PCLinux2007 and it worked for about an hour but then it quit booting.
Any Ideas?
I am beginning to think that I have a bad MoBo.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
Can you tell us the TYPE number from the sticker on the bottom?
Looks like TYPE 2647-4MU or TYPE 2648-6RU.
How much memory is in there?
Does the CPU (rear the top left corner (F1/F2 keys) get warm?
Is the CPU fan spinning?
To me it sounds like the CPU fan is dirty or not working, and the T23 is overheating.
How handy are you with a small Philips screwdriver, to take the keyboard off and have a look at that fan?
Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual here:

It'll tell/show you how to take it off (only 3 screws).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Try removing the mini-pci card and/or Network card from the underside, and see if you still have a problem booting.

P.S.
Welcome aboard!!
