Is this the right memory for a T23?

#1 Post by virge » Sat Apr 05, 2008 2:21 am

I was looking for memory for a T23 and found this online:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0233160035

It seems to be the correct type (PC133, 144pin SODIMM), but the price is so much lower than other listings. Is there something I'm missing?

I think it will work, but also it is a no name ram so its cheap.
Read here about differences low density vs high density:

If it's like some recent PC133 512MB modules I bought off another eBay seller for about the same price ($28.80/module), they will indeed be "no-name" sticks with generic labels, if at all, and probably no company markings on the individual memory chips. Be sure to completely test them with a diagnostic program such as memtest86+. Allow at least three complete passes through all of the tests before deciding that they are "good".

Oh, and the "density" issue is really a non-issue. It looks like this seller is saying that an 8-chip module is "low density" since it has less components than a 16-chip module. Generally, low vs. high density memories is a problem only for systems using PC100 (or slower) since they will need to use 4K refresh parts, instead of the 8K refresh that these 512MB modules undoubtedly have.

Thanks for the input. I will probably go ahead and pick up a couple for my newly acquired T23 after I have more time to check it out. I tend to get a little ahead of myself sometimes. :D

It had the pulsating fan issue which I managed to fix despite my $9.99 soldering iron. Still wouldn't boot, but thanks to Ray a la this post:

I removed the wifi/modem combo card and viola! It works!
