read/write cd for think pad

#1 Post by larryb » Thu Apr 10, 2008 8:14 pm

Looking for a replacement cd drive that will read and write cd's.

The one that is in my unit now is read only.

Did IBM make one for the T2X series?

If what is the model number of the unit?

Any help would be great!

Thanks in advance.

Here's some general information about drives:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4PKPPU

Scroll down to the "CD-ROM, CD-RW, and DVD-ROM options" section. You are looking for the Ultrabay 2000 CDRW (reads and writes CDs but does not read DVD) or CDRW/DVD-ROM Combo (reads and writes CDs, reads DVD) drives. There are several of each type; the differences mostly being the "speed" of how fast reads and writes are accomplished. There are many FRUs floating around for CD burners. You can search for "08K9868" as those are the fastest combo drives that were offered. If you find a seller who states the part number, check the list I referred to and if it's not there, Google it and see what it turns up. You can also ask back here and somebody should know what it is.

edit: The speed specs for CDRW drives are usually stated as something like 8x/4x/24x. This is CD-R write, CDRW write and CD-ROM read speeds. The combo drives add a fourth "x" spec of DVD-ROM read speed.
