T23 DOS display weird symptoms

#1 Post by nintenDRU » Wed Apr 16, 2008 11:27 am

I use older laptops to run my CNC machines. I recently bought (2) T23's and ran into the strangest issue. The T23's have W2K svcpk4 installed and the software I run, runs in DOS mode. What happens is it looks like the spaces in between the words in the menus have very odd characters? Which makes most of the menus unreaable. I have lots of older Thinkpads running the same software that handle the graphics fine. I have also tried to just install DOS and I get the same problem. Does anyone have any idea or where I should start?

Welcome to the Forum!

Here is a link to install the Super Savage IXC16 video driver for W2K; http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4Z8NTP
And here's one for W95/98 that should run under DOS; http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4Z6SC7

Seems it doesn't understand how many characters. Have you tried "DOS Compatibility" for your CNC app?

I remember seeing the same problem your having on one of my systems but it was along time ago, not on a Thinkpad. I'm pretty sure it was a video driver issue....

Ok so I was able to load the W2k driver but how do I load the other one for DOS? And in w2k the graphics are better but not in my dos app.
Also, what is "DOS Compatibility" mode?
TIA

You need to need to add this line to your config.sys file:

device=ansi.sys
