I have a spare T23 battery that I want to put in a T30. Can I just notch the one corner that has a partial notch in it? Come on, I know you guys, Somebody has already tried this
Thanks, Tom

If you are talking about cutting out a corner of the T2x battery, then that might be the wrong thing to do. I'd see if you could remove the matching corner of the T30's battery bay so that you could install any T2x battery without having to modify it. If it's possible and there's nothing important in that corner, then to me that would be the more useful modification. I also have no idea what this might mean to the operational aspects of the T30 charging circuitry if it is used on a T2x battery, so you're on your own

Ray, I am indeed thinking about notching the battery. I seem to remember seeing posts about using a T30 battery in a T23. Soooo, I thought........... The corner I'm referring to has a notch about half way, so there can't be a battery cell in that half inch or so. Tom

My memory brought this one up: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=53061
It was a question about transferring the cells and electronics inside a T2x battery pack into a T30 pack. You might be right about the T2x battery pack not having anything important in that 1/2" or so. If nobody else can say for sure what's in that corner of the pack, then I would think that you should take your battery pack apart to insure that you wouldn't be cutting into anything that's important (wires, circuit board, etc.).

If anyone cares, perhaps you can. I know you can cut out the notch, as I have done it. The next problem encountered is the battery is a little bit to wide to drop nicely into the T30 battery bay.
I think I can file the sides, or I could just get on with my life.

Never having very prudent, the saga continues. After sanding the sides of the battery paper thin, (I love my belt sander) enlarging the holes in the base that the 2 little nubbins on the back of the battery go into (extra base, NOT a working machine) and much head scratching----It was not to be. It would just not fit in and lock. Time to just break down and buy a battery.
I may however, think about putting new cells in an old T42 battery that I have laying around. Anybody ever try that? Everybody should have at least one wacked out project going on

FWIW, I have recelled a few, and had mixed results. One T2X battery ran for about 3 hours and reportedly would run for 4.5, but the first time I tried to calibrate, the charging circuit died. I think the cells I used drew too much power for the circuit. I can open the battery and charge them, but the battery is no longer recognized or useable. Bummer.
I re-celled one for a 600 series, and it's working OK. I just won't let the charge drop below 40% No real idea what the actual run time would be.

Common sense to some of us is unfortunately the higher education others strive to attain.
blaa
you should just build a connector , if it cant fit in the base wire it up and hide the battery in a briefcase or something that you use to lug around the laptop , idk ... u could build a few of em all together like 4-5 into a big battery pack and just run the wires over ...

I opened up a defective T23 battery, to see what's inside.
There are 6 cells and a printed circuit board in there.
The corner that has the cutout in a T30 battery is empty in a T23 battery, sou you could cut it out if you feel so inclined.
I hunted around some and found replacement batteries for DIYers:
http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?P ... rodID=1404
A T23 or T30 battery takes 6 of these @ $5.90 (without tab) or @ $6.15 (with pre-wired tab).
Makes $35.40 / $36.90 per battery pack (+ shipping).
Buying a knockoff is cheaper.
