T23 installed with COM2 instead of COM1

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Fri May 09, 2008 8:54 am

One of my T23s got a new HD.
This HD is a clone from a freshly installed and fully updated XP-Pro/SP2 with all the IBM/Lenovo updates.
The original install was made on a T23 with XGA screen.
Before I took an image of this HD, I put the HD in a T23 with SXGA.
Windows enumerated the newly-found hardware, but everything worked fine.
Then I made the image, cloned it on another HD, which I then put into another T23 with XGA.
I did not notice any enumeration, but somehow the COM port came out as COM2 instead of COM1.
How can I change this COM2 into COM1?
Will an interrupt change and port-address change be enough?

Assuming XP, control panel - device manager - ports - properties - port settings - advanced - change comm port number.
Was the serial port or modem disabled before and now they are both enabled? That would make it assign a 2nd port, com2 int 3.
Maybe check in the bios setup first.

When I put the HD in, there was indeed no modem card in the T23.
Guess that may have caused the confusion.
I'll put it back in, then delete the COM2 in Device manager, and see if 'found new hardware' fixes it.

UPDATE: that did the trick.
