T30 2366-HG4 +Bluetooth 01C9

#1 Post by Italia » Fri May 16, 2008 5:17 pm

Hi
I've been digging through this forum and whilst I got many ideas for solving the 1C09 issue, none really seems to fit exactly my problem. Maybe someone can help.
I have a T30 2366-HG4 originally 1.8, which I upgraded to 2.4. Because I wanted wireless capability and because the antenna wires were already in place, I added a wireless adapter - Ambit T60H786-U or FRU 39T0073. I did not get 1802 error or 01C9 error which made me ecstatic.

My next step was to add bluetooth capability, and here is where I got unstuck. After a bit of Googling, I purchased an Actionec BMDC200 91P7315 bluetooth modem card. I installed it and on boot up hit the dreaded 01C9 error.
I looked at both this site and Thinkwiki and tried the various solutions. After running IBM_wifi disk, I was able (I think) to change the address of the wireless card (now 0X280), but the problem persists.
As soon as I fit the BMDC200 card, I get the 01C9 error message. I tried the esc-spacebar trick, but the bluetooth card doesn't even get detected by Windows.

Can anyone suggest a way forward from here? Is it possible to resolve this?
Any help is VERY welcome
Thanks
Italia

Welcome to the forum!
Have you tried this update for Bluetooth?

Another thing comes to mind, it looks like you have 2 modems in your T30, more that it probably can handle.
Perhaps swap the wifi-card for a Broadcom B/G, or Intel 2200/2915?

PS: I used to live in Dublin until last August 2007.

RBS,
Thanks for the reply.
I knew about the update, but didn't apply it, as I had installed an SP2 slipstreamed version of XP Pro. I didn't know if it would work (given the install instructions) with SP2 preinstalled, and I didn't want to stuff up my XP installation. If there are no counter indications with SP2, I'll apply it.

I don't understand the 2 modems bit. The Ambit wifi card, AFAIK, doesn't have a modem. Only the Actionec BMDC200 card does, and it replaces the original modem daughter card.

What is the difference between the Ambit card I have and the Intel 2200/2915 or the Broadcom B/G cards? Are they superior or have better performance?

PS - have you started getting some colour back into your life after Dublin? Not exactly the Sunshine State here :) Rains about 300 days a year......
Cheers

I thought the Ambit card was a modem/wifi combo, sorry.

That card has an Atheros chipset actually, which is better than an Intel or Broadcom.

Here is some more info about the BT card:

Your card might not be compatible with a T30, although some on eBay mention it is.
Make sure you update to BIOS 2.10 and Embedded Controller 1.07.

About the 01c9 (but you saw that already I think):

I lived in Dublin for 8 years, and 300 days rain per year is grossly exaggerated! That applies maybe to Seattle/USA and Vancouver/Canada (where I also lived some years ago).
I am now living in N/E Pennsylvania, where it has rained a fair amount recently, but there are plenty days with sunshine.
I had a great tan after my holidays in Italy last year, and part of it is already being refreshed, driving around with the sunroof open.
