What "wheel mouse" works with a T2647?

#1 Post by Tourmi » Mon May 26, 2008 7:29 pm

Hi everyone, I'm new to the list. I have an older model T2647 and have been using a MS "Intelliwheel" mouse which apparently isn't "intelli"wheel enough to work properly. I also bought a cheapo "universal" wheel mouse and the wheel didn't work either.

Is anyone successfully using a wheelmouse with a T2647 and if so, what brand, model is it, and in any case, do I need a special driver to get these things to work? For example, if the MS Intelliwheel Mouse needs a driver from Microsoft, does anyone have the link?

Thanks.
Steve

Ok, T20 through T23 Thinkpads came in a 2647 model. So, assuming that you have one of those, what OS are you running? If it's Win2k or XP there is no driver required to make a wheel mouse work. There is a driver from MS to make the extra buttons on the intellimouse work though, but we'd need to know your OS to recommend a driver.

I have a T21 (2647-47U) running WinXP with a MS Optical Wheel Mouse, USB & PS/2 compatible. I have it connected to the PS/2 port using the supplied adapter. I did not have to install any special drivers.

When I roll the wheel the page scrolls up and down. Or, I can press the wheel as a middle mouse button and the page will then scroll as I slide the mouse forward or backward. Clicking the wheel again takes it out of scroll mode.

I have used all sorts of wheel-mice (M$, Logitech, Dell, Compaq, IBM, no-name) with the T23, none of them needed a specific driver to work. The built-in driver from XP worked with all of them.

Have you tried using the USB connector to see if you have better functionality with your mice instead of the serial port? And this is a troubleshooting recommendation, before you can respond you don't want to use a USB port for a mouse.

I use a Logitech Trackman cordless, and never got full functionality until I did. Through the serial port I only got generic mouse capabilities. I later also had to install the Logitech driver to get the ability to press down the wheel to doubleclick, the real reason I get them with three buttons or a wheel.

All this is with XP; no problems under 98. Also saw similar behavior under Vista on another PC.
